I agree: Wolverine is ridiculous.
Claremont, despite his histrionics, never violated the central tenet of Wolverine’s appeal and left the Canadian’s mysterious past mysterious. Alas, when he left the X-Men in 1991, suddenly everyone wanted to play with the coolest character in the Marvel universe. In just a few years, writers and editors clumsily managed to graft every single antihero trope onto his backstory. According to his new biography, Wolverine has been, at various times, a Canadian cowboy, a ninja, a private eye, a secret agent, a bootlegger, a mercenary, a bodyguard, a caveman, a victim of the Holocaust, a Vietnam vet, a World War II vet, a corrupt cop, and a lumberjack. Also, he was raised by wolves; he was raised by native Canadians; he is the reincarnation of a warrior from a race of humanoid dog people; he was at Hiroshima when the bomb fell, and all his girlfriends died (11 to date). Oh, and he’s saddled with five children.
He was much cooler when we couldn’t know who or what he was. Or even how he became what he is. When we look back at his lifestory, we get the sense that comics are filled with lame stories. Then we must grow up and accept that Wolverine is pretty lame himself.

This is why the movie didn’t bother me so much. It was silly fun and nothing more. I don’t know why people are making a big deal of it. It’s like Commando. Just pure silly fun. Unlike the X-Men series which pissed me off because they could have actually went somewhere with the Phoenix saga. But they just poo pooed on the build up.
As for solo Wolverine, I liked the comics because it was just him on a rampage. I’d like to see sequels of him in Japan with ninjas. It’s not about deeper meaning or substance when it comes to Wolverine. It’s all about adventure and pulp. It was a fun enjoyable comic. They just need to figure that out in the next film. Forget fanboys and Dark Knight. Just make a well written adventure story about a man and his claws. Heh.
They should have ended Wolverine with him on a rampage all confused and pissed off. This would have set up Japan really cool.
The film was tarded, but it didn’t offend me.
i want X-Men Origins: Cyclops. they need to make him a better character.
no more sequel to Wolverine please. but if they show Wolverine in Japan, he should make sushi and cut the rolls with his claws. maybe he can make teppanyaki with his claws (or authentic japanese noodles).

What do I care what other reviewers say?
I found it guilty pleasure fun. It’s not Hamlet. Just pure silly stupidity. I mean this movie is a train wreck… but it doesn’t bother me at all.
Yes, I want to see a sequel of the lone wolf on his adventures with pirates and ninjas. If you read the Wolverine stand alones it’s all adventure and intrigue. I think Hugh is more this version of Wolverine and not X-men Wolverine so it could be a fun ride as long as they ditch all the other mutants for a while.
All I have to say is they NEED to make more Wolverines, because they finally got all this origins crap out of the way. It’s time for Wolverine adventurer. It could be a totally different kind of comic film. I fear they’ll fuck up that aspect, but I’m willing to hope they capture the fun of the comics. He’s sort of Bond with blades. Heh. He’s Bond/Man with no name.
I’m a fan of the comics so I DO want to see a sequel. This first film means nothing. It’s just an intro. Sorta like the Buffy film VS the Buffy Series… I’m hoping.
All I have to say is don’t let this film bother you so much. Just don’t watch the sequel, but it’s not like you guys cared for Wolvie anyways.
Like I said, this movie wasn’t great but I hope they get the sequel right. He’s a fun character when the adventure is right.
