“He’s so good. Hard to believe he was fired from 37 different stations.” “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” “Are you saying he was a gay Marine?”

Link of the Day [9.24.21]

Was it really thirty years ago that these albums came out? Yes. Supposedly this was the best release days ever. Others can make the claim. I don’t know. All I know is that I remember the day well.

I was still in university at the U. I was especially waiting for the new Tribe album. I went to a music store called Coconuts. On the radio was playing “Smells like Teen Spirit.” I could not find the Tribe album. It was all sold out. I would get it sometime later, but not that day.

Since this was so long ago, I may be misremembering it all and this happened on a different day.

That’s Not A Skateboard

Was this really released in 1983? Sheez. I’ve got the skateboard blues!

There’s a lot of classic lines from here… “You guys got a dime?” “The Swedes down in Venice Beach. Now shove off!”

Gosh. I’m really young at the time of this videos release. Skateboarding has come a long way from this.

Link of the Day [1.13.19]

Another year, another year of “Link of the Day!” Perhaps I will find something better with my time. Maybe…

There are a set of films that I believe have described my life. “Office Space” is one of them. Both when I was a server at some shlock place like Tchotkes or working at IniTech, this film speaks to me.

I remember catching it with the Shore Studios crew. We did not laugh one bit during the show. It took video and us maturing to see how funny it was.

I really miss the Shore Studios crew.

[7] On the Way Home

Seven days left with Nanase in Nogizaka46…

Let’s start with the beginning. Maiyan ropes me into checking out this group called Nogizaka46. On the wiki pages, I peruse though the members. They are all pretty. I get to Nanase’s page and know that there are many members as pretty or more than Maiyan, in particular Nanase. To me, she’s always been more beautiful than Maiyan. And I find Maiyan the most beautiful of idols. Somehow, both are true.

Anyhow seven days, at the beginning we begin again.

“What is your stategy for dealing with the waves of incoming British troops?” “The only strategy I know: a straight-up, street-smart, all-American ass kicking!”

I love the nostalgia of looking back twenty years ago to 1996. That was the year I broke. My favorite and I turned 25 during the proto-NewsRadio Quote Month.

Today’s link takes us to a list of music from that era. I remember, love, and cherish some of these songs. It reminds me of sitting on the couch and watching M2.

Sadly, that was then this is now. It doesn’t come back. At least we have “Peaches” from the Presidents of the United States.

Don’t You Forget About Me

When this song came out, when the Breakfast Club movie came out, I was just finishing up Catholic school and graduating to high school. One of the kids in the class of ’85 had a party to celebrate it. There was a DJ spinning records and all the kids dancing or mixing it up. The DJ had a few games with records as prizes — actual vinyl 45s. I won a round and had to choose. I didn’t know any of the music of the day because I was in my punk phase and didn’t listen to anything that wasn’t Black Flag, Minor Threat, or hardcore. [poser!] The girls said to take the Simple Minds single. I’m always up for listening to what girls say. It wasn’t a bad choice. It’s a song that reminds me of youth, but I’m sure that for my classmates, the title does not apply for me.
