Covid-19 Days — 626: 8850.9 miles

A week or so after the lockdown in March 2020, I had set the B trip odometer to my truck back to zero to figure out how many miles I would drive during the lockdown. You see, commuting daily would be at least 60 miles a day. I would do about 320 miles a week in my truck with the commute and local driving on the weekends. For the year, I think I would do about 18,000 miles.

I was just curious to see how many miles I would put on during the lockdown. Of course, we’ve been out of lockdown for almost a year so this isn’t an accurate account of how many miles I did during lockdown. If I thought to have checked immediately, I’m sure the count would’ve been under 4,000 miles. But I missed that chance to record it.

For the record, it’s 8850.9 miles for the 626 days since the lockdown. It turns out to be about 99 miles per week, 433 miles per month, or 14 miles per day. Quite a bit less than what I did before the rona. Just a bit less.

Covid-19 Days — 441

I believe the last time I got my hair cut was perhaps a week before the state shutdown because of the rona last year. So even though I am balding, I was sporting some long hair at the end of these tumultuous times. Long hair was great and glorious running my fingers through it was the best.

Today I got my first hair cut in 14 months. I just asked for the barber to clean it up. She did and showed me. It was ugly. I wasn’t liking it. So I told her to cut it a bit more. She cut at least two inches off. Now I can’t put my hair into a ponytail. I miss running my fingers through the long hair.

The haircut looks good. Yet even as I sat in the chair, I wondered how long will it take to grow back.

Bald on the top, but long in the back. I was sporting an ugly rona mullet. I want to get that back…

Covid-19 Days — 427

So does it seem like we are exiting from the problems of this pandemic? The government has relaxed rules for those who have been fully vaccinated. Is it the right time? Are we ready for this? Am I?

I have mixed feelings. I don’t want to leave the house. I especially don’t want to leave the house and see everyone without a mask. We all shall be going around and interacting with people after one year. I don’t like it. I am also not wanting to go back to work, but that is for personal reasons.

I guess we’ll have to live it as we live it.

Covid-19 Days – 364

It went by so fast, and yet it felt like nine times more days than that. Was it just a year ago that it came all crashing to a halt? Was it just a year ago that we finally knew that the rona was something to be wary about? Was it really that long ago that dumb, morally corrupt people were in charge of fighting it? People who don’t give a hoot about other people. Bury our dead in their Florida resorts. It really was. Just a year ago.

Still. We are not out of it just yet.

Yesterday, President Biden had a speech upon which he wants to really get the US over the hump by the 4th of July. If we all can put our effort to getting the vaccine and to keep being vigilant, maybe we can do it.

It’s a longshot.

Covid-19 Days – 256: Happy Thanksgiving!

Can you imagine we’d still be in the midst of the pandemic even so far a long? Yet, here we are and the threat is even worst. We let our guard down and did not remain vigilant so now, we’re not spending the holiday with family and friends, but alone in our pods. What’s for dinner?

In this troubling year there are still a few things to be thankful for…

Yamashita Mizuki, Kubo Shiori, Umezawa Minami — 3rd Gen frontline. Mai Channel. Karin Channel. Saito Yuuri. Kitagawa Yuri our all-American girl. 963-chan. Kurokami, ponytailed Erika-sama. Captain Midsummer. The members of Nogizaka46. Sakurazaka46 variety explosion. Hinatazaka46 enthusiasm. Idol otaku idol. Coffee. Coca-cola. BBQ ribs. French fries. Popeye’s spicy chicken sandwich. Books. Travel stories. Ghost stories. Patagonia wear. Track suits. Long, arduous walks. Short walks, quick around the block. Family. Friends. Friendly dogs. Sunny days. Rainy days. Season appropriate weather. Early 2013 MacBook Pro. Nogizaka46. Haruhi. Regular expressions.

Still, we are alive. We can survive for another year. Plenty to be thankful for. Looking forward to be thankful again for another trip around the sun.

Dumb Donald Does Covid

News circulated late last night that Donald Trump contracted the Corona Virus along with his wife, Melania. To be a better person and not say out loud my true thoughts, I can only think of two words: karma and justice.

Downplaying the impact of the Corona virus for the better part of the year while secretly knowing its impact, karma has come for Donald Trump.

Maybe too there will be justice for those that have died from Donald Trump’s abominable mishandling of the response to it.

If you don’t know, the election is coming up. One way or another it would be good to know that Donald Trump won’t be in DC next year or the years after.

“I’m an air traffic controller. It gets very stressful, so once a year I flip out and punch my fist through a radar screen, and I get sent here.”

Bill & Ted Face the Music is the first movie that I have seen in a long while. I did not see it at the movie theater. I paid to watch it at home.

Paying for first run movies this way is going to be the wave of the future. We’ll never go back to sitting in the dark with a couple dozen strangers staring at the large silver screen. Who wants to laugh and then inhale someone else’s COVID-19? Sadly, I would as I think the experience of watching it at home on my television diminished the awe. It was literally watching television and not a film.

So the third installment finds Bill and Ted needing to write that hit song that would unite the world. They had spent 20 years not writing it. They thought they had, but it wasn’t it, so we got the sequel to the sequel. Again some time traveling hi-jinks ensue. Add in their daughters and more historical dudes and the phone booth, which is very anachronistic nowadays, and you have a righteous romp back to simpler days.

The film very much would like to make these troubling times better. It wants us to feel that we can overcome these roadblocks. It was written for us to have fun in the days of Trump, but now after it was delayed, it was written for us to smile in the Covid-19 Days. That’s what I felt. Some happiness to spend time with some characters that I sort of been attached to for most of my life. I need it. We need it. Bill and Ted make it happen.

3 of 5 stars.

Where A Mask?

I’ve been looking for the perfect mask in the fight against the rona. I have yet to find anything that satisfies me.

First, it was bandanas. I have a few of them because I like having them around. I wore them at the start of the rona, because face masks were tough to purchase.

Next, I wore neck gaiters. These are my favorite to wear. I’ve got a heavy thick one for winter, and I bought some recently that are for the summer. But these type of facial coverings are getting a bad rap. Still, though, I like these because they can be worn around the neck normally and quickly pulled on. I usually use these on my walks outside.

Now, I’m on the regular cloth masks. I’ve bought a few more. It’s like getting to be an expensive accessory.

Covid-19 Days – 137

I cannot believe that I may have to start this up again! Things have not gotten any better in the US. It’s gotten worst. Can you believe it?

It’s almost like we don’t really want to fight the rona. We just want to pretend that nothing is happening, and we are willing to sacrifice whomever to this thing.

I don’t get it. Why are we so stupid? How can we have gone through the first half of the year and not make any progress? How can we not want to win this battle?

It was all for naught.
