Zathura

Zarutha was just like Jumanji except not as good. I believe it lacked the David Allen Grier laugh machine, the hot Bebe Neuwirth, and the eccentricities of Robin Williams. (I don’t believe I just said I miss Robin Williams in a movie!) What we end up with is Dax Shepard.

I always thought that Zach Braff was Dax Shepard. Or is it the other way around? Throughout the movie I thought it was Braff. I even waited until the credits to see if it was. It was not. Yet, I thought he went by a pseudonym to avoid being stuck in a stiff holiday film. Just look, Zach or Dax. They roll off the tongue the same way. Either way with that dude in it, Zathura was a snore.

It would’ve been better as a 4 player game same as Jumanji.

3 of 5 stars.

  1. What sucked was hearing all the Fav’s interviews. He kept talking about how he went back to the days of E.T. and designed the movie to be more about the relationship of the boys. Then he went on to talk about all the practical effects and wanted it to all seem real and not like the overdone CG fests. But in the end it didn’t matter. The story wandered and the kids didn’t seem to care they were floating off in space. What the hell “real”. Dude I’d be freaking out. SPOILER WARNING! What bothered me is near the end the sister gets sucked out and they don’t seem to care. But when the brother gets sucked away the kid freaks out and the music kicks in the screen fades. What the hell! Oh well. Next time Favs. That’s all I got to say about that.

  2. Yeah, I was a little disappointed at the fact that John Favreau wasn’t able to put together an interesting, exciteable movie. I am getting the feeling that he might be on the verge of becoming the male version of Nora Ephron. Lacks pacing. Was Elf like this or Made?
