Covid-19 Days – 0

I guess we’ll have to do something while we are social distancing ourselves from people. I figure I might as well break out the blogging chops and see if I can write daily blog posts throughout these trying times.

What better day to start it off as Donald Trump declares a state of national emergency? Cheese and crackers. Then he doesn’t even take responsibility: “I don’t take responsibility at all.” No shit, Sherlock. You don’t know nothing about the word. Reason number one that electing this guy to the highest office was a big mistake. Thanks, Boomers.

So this is exactly where we are at. A few weeks into America’s part of the pandemic and all hell is breaking loose. The grocery stores are empty. The kids are home. No one wants to touch their face. Call me crazy but perhaps having people who believe in good government to provide people with the correct necessities would’ve been great at leading. Instead we have ignorant, narcissists. Thanks, Boomers.

Yeah. I always do this on this day. But Saito Yuri is very much a favorite, and also this song. It’s the short version though, but get smashed because of the cuteness that is Nogizaka46, a very young Nogizaka46.

Link of the Day [3.12.20]

It’s nuts right now. The governor has taken steps to mitigate the spread of the corona virus, COVID-19. Schools closing. Events suspended or postponed. Even baseball is not going to happen at the end of the month. Here we go. Like a zombie apocalypse.

I was in CostCo this evening and the lines were crazy. I walked in and out! Luckily, I had shopped earlier this week, but I didn’t truly stock up. The Spam was gone — only two tins. I thought to myself, “Man, is it so bad that white people have resorted to buying Spam?”

Keep safe and practice good hygiene. Wash your hands. I would say don’t touch your face, but I know you can’t help it. I can’t help it. We are in this together and we’re going to need to cooperate to make it through safely.

Here we are. Nogizaka46’s 25th single. Their first of 2020. Shiraishi Mai’s Graduation Single. Shiawase no Hogoshyoku.

While it isn’t legendary to match the legend of Maiyan, I do like it. It feels like the song over the end credits of a movie in which you want to stay with the characters to continue their story forever. It is melancholy. It makes me sad. I wish Nogizaka46 wouldn’t change… I am a fool for thinking that.

Anyhow, Nogizaka46 still makes me smile. This song does as well. May it bring a smile to you as well. If it does, thank Maiyan for me.

Book Store Haul 2020!

I haven’t done one of these in a while, but since I dropped a pretty penny on several books, I thought this would be a fun thing to blog about.

Am I a software engineer still? Do I still like thinking about the process in software development? Did I just buy some books on aspects of software development that I won’t ever get to apply in my software development? I guess these four books answers in the affirmative.

At work, I’ve been shoveled into the not-architect group within our group. That’s okay. I don’t like how they play over there anyway, but I still like to think about things. I will try to read these books and apply them to my work life.

1917

1917 is not just a year, but a movie that competed for Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars… It didn’t win.

But that shouldn’t stop you from watching this film. It’s not the best and it does have some problems, like the fact that it is trying to be one continuous take which is an artifice that is distracting, but it is rather entertaining.

Toot On!

Yes. Yes. Yup. Yes. Even more so.. YOU’RE GOD DAMN RIGHT!

I’ve always said “Lemon of Troy” was my favorite Simpsons episode ever. It was always implied that it was the best one, too. So let Patrick H Willems break it down how great it really is.

Happy Birthday, Nogizaka46!

Eight years ago Japanese idol group released their first single, Guru Guru Curtain 「ぐるぐるカーテン」! It wasn’t a hit.

Fast forward to now. They are filling up big domes with 40,000 cheering fans. And of course, I am such a big fan, I’m telling you this. Don’t know how I fell in love with them, but I did.

Join me in wishing the members a Happy Birthday!

Link of the Day [2.19.20]

Nogizaka46 Saito Asuka, Umezawa Minami, and Yamashita Mizuki going to star in the live adaptation of the hit anime, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken. I think the anime nerds are against it as the anime is just showing now. Plus, when they find out it’s idols, they’ll be really up in arms.

Me. I love ’em, so I can’t wait.

Bad Boys for Life

Bad Boys for Life was missing the Micheal Bey. The swirling cameras. The spinning shots. The larger than life poses. I wanted Beyham to remind me, “Bad boys for life!”

This film is trying hard to become like the Fast and the Furious films. It’s trying to pivot to being a franchise. It introduced a back story which was ridiculous. It filled in the past 20 years with stories and characters that look interesting but. And it gave us one of the most outrageous twists I have seen in films since… Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. No not a child of Palpatine, but something equally dumb. It’s also set up for a sequel which I guess continues the franchise, but what a nutty premise to get to the end and to start again.

Hopefully, Beyham returns.
