Number one with a sword is everyone’s favorite: Seven Samurai. It’s mine as well, and one I consider in the top 5 of greatest films ever made, top 3 of the best films ever, and numero uno as the GOAT. Maybe. But that’s my opinion.

“Romantic Grilled Squid” from Nogizaka46’s fifth single. This version is from their 2015 National Summer Tour in their home stadium, Meiji Jingu. This is Nogizaka at the cusp of their step towards stardom. In the video, you get a few of the graduates who didn’t make it to Tokyo Dome in 2017, and you get graduates from afterwards, and you get those ready to graduate. So good to see them all — like before they were stars.
They end with the future double centers of the fall 2015 single, Nanase and Maiyan. “Kira!” And they are on our way to be the great idol group that I love.

Go, Carp, Go!
The Baltimore Orioles may be in a dismal situation, but checking in on my team in the Nippon Baseball League, Hiroshima Toya Carp, I find they made it back to the Japan Series. It’s like their World Series. This is the second time in three years. They haven’t won it, yet, and it’s been since 1984 that they have won it.
I wonder if Carp fans in Japan were ever thinking if they would ever win the championship again since that time.
As an Orioles fan who hasn’t seen them win since 1983, I know how it goes.

I had some pork belly in the freezer for quite a while. Uh, longer than I want to admit. So I want to make something with it. Char-sui for ramen? Maybe. But let’s go to the old Filipino favorite lechon kawali.
Yesterday, after thawing it out over night, I boiled it for an hour. Along with water, some bay leaf and peppercorn kernels. I didn’t have much of those so I went to the pepper mill and dumped its contents out. When it was done, I dried the pork off, placed on a plate in the fridge so that today I can fry that mea up!
So I did. In hot oil. I don’t know what I’m doing as some of that was splattering all over the place. I had thought I thoroughly dried it out in the fridge over night.
The oil was supposed to be around 350 F. I don’t have a thermometer. I eye balled it. Not too sure, but maybe it was too hot. It should’ve been around 5 minutes for each slab. But I think they were done in 4.
Now to the taste. Okay. I should’ve seasoned it before frying. I didn’t and now I have to rely on the vinegar to make it tasty.
I don’t want to eat it all, but…
