“You don’t actually have to LISTEN to them. Just pretend to. It helps to create a more harmonious group energy.”

The Nun

I write this in the dark of the Sunday night.  I should’ve written this in the bright day light to avoid thinking about that demon dressed as a nun.  But then I think about it and wonder how much it looked like Maryln Manson and now it doesn’t even scare me.  Much.

This film was better than the second Annabelle, but no where in league with its forbearers, The Conjuring series.  It’s got some creeps, but there was a lot of fun and funniness going on.  Like it knew that it was ridiculous.

I will watch this when it’s on TBS, but I will only do so in the bright light of day.

Crazy Rich Asians

I like me a romantic comedy.  I’m not sure of the comedy in this one.  It was more a drama with some funny things tacked on.  Or was it a light comedy with some romance put into it?  Whichever it is the comedy was light and not like the rom-coms of the 90s-00s.

It was good to see Asians as the romantic leads.  And it was nice to Singapore which is really rich, but has more complications like class and race issues and immigration.  Like the US, but in Asia.

I can’t wait to see the sequel though…

“Listen, I have something to tell you and it’s not very easy and I would just like to sit down. Lisa doesn’t have a crush on me, and that was just a big stupid lie that I made up because I want to tell how much I really feel about you.”

As I reach work and get out my car, I usually check something on my phone before entering the Faraday cage where my desk is parked.  I do it most often to set my fantasy baseball lineup for the day, even though it would be better to set it closer to the afternoon as the lineups announced.  Other times it’s to see what’s up with my favorite idols in Japan, Nogizaka46.  Today, I checked up on them…

「卒業」

Those are words to fear as an idol fan.  “Graduation.”

They stopped me in my tracks — a brick falling on my head.  It isn’t what I wanted to read, but I know they will pop up on occasion.  It’s why being an idol fan is terrible.  One of your favorites may have announced graduation.  And they will all do so eventually.  The idol world continues, but whose will stop?

Nishino Nanase announced her graduation.  Nanasemaru.  The Ace of Nogizaka.  The beloved Nishino Nanase.

There are 2 Aces in Nogizaka, Nishino and Shiraishi Mai.  Maiyan is the beauty.  Too beautiful for words.  Nishino is the one you want to take care of.  So adorable.

My heart is broken.  My love is planning to leave.

She’s not my oshimen, but she is a member I truly love.  Reading her blog post in Google translate had me in tears at my desk.  Even now, I choke up thinking about her words.

It’s a bummer.  But we still have next single to look forward to and to her graduation concert.  I wonder how to get tickets… hmm.

This is terrible news.  As an idol fan I have to live with it.  I wish Nanase only happiness in her life.  I won’t be able to see her much when she’s no longer with the group and it makes me sad.

I am glad to have known Nogizaka46 when there was such a member…

“C’mon sir, you’ve gotta have a few skeletons in your closet.” “Oh, I’ve got skeletons running around eating leftovers from the fridge, but that doesn’t mean you’ll find anything.”

Link of the Day [9.18.18]

So I’m setting things up so that the cut cord makes me happy.

First, it was signing up for DirecTV Now.  It’s been a few weeks.  I really haven’t been bothered by switching to an internet service for television.  It’s got some kinks, but it’s still watching television.

Now, the next thing is to upgrade the sound.  Really.  The television comes next, but the sound first.  I bought today’s link because it came recommended on WireCutter.com.  One thing about it though is when does the bass kick in?

Anyhow, more adventures at cord cutting will continue…

“Yeah, the guy who’s gonna blow up the Guggenheim!”

I sat down and was going write about this, but now I don’t remember what I was going to write about…

I had made up my mind to post something to the blog.  After all, I am paying for it!  But then I forgot.

What was I thinking?  And when was I thinking it?

It was this past weekend.  I knew I had a funny tale to tell.  Then I knew that I have to write up another movie review (The Nun.  See it.  Don’t see her in the shadows.)  There was something I wanted to say.  Perhaps it was in response to something someone else posted?  Perhaps it was about sports?  The Orioles suck ass and no one cares about football.

Hmm.  I don’t know.

Anyhow.  Here’s another blog post.

“Did I hear someone asking for stories about Ted?” “Yes.” “Then right this way, my friend, for some Ted-bits of fun, some Ted-memberances.”

Perfect Blue

This is the second time seeing the movie.  I liked it then.  I like it now.  Still a really fascinating introduction into the anime world for Satoshi Kon.  Still a very raw film.  You can see the rough edges.  They smooth out over his short career.  Kon was taken from us too early.  He would’ve made more interesting films.

One thing, I’ve gotten deeper into the idol world.  My love for Nogizaka46 knows no end.  Will I be Me-mania-san?  Not really but sometimes this obsession is unhealthy.

Crazy Rich Asians

You know if there’s an Asian in the movie I’ll be happy to watch it.  That’s how I ended up watching Crazy Rich Asians.  Also, because I like romantic comedies.  But that’s something that I don’t know how this one is really called one.

There’s romance, but I’m not too sure about the comedy.  More dramady than comedy. More drama than laughs.  Of course there are a few.  As there are a few of drama.  That mother vs. mother-in-law battle will be interesting  in the next movie.  As is the deal with that girl at the end.

But as you can tell, I’m just filling in words.  I really only saw it when it first came out last month and now I am trying to blog here.  As you know it is NewsRadio Quote Month, the best month of the year.  There’s plenty of quotes still left.  The one above is just a small snippet of a zany conversation.  You should see the show.

But back to the movie.  As a single guy, it wasn’t for me.  But I loved the location, Singapore.  I’ve been there and it’s just as amazing as it looked in the film.  Of course, I didn’t go to the crazy, rich Asian places as I’m sane and poor.  But the place is amazing.  Another country I would love to go back to.  Some day…
