Link of the Day [6.25.15]

I don't like business or finance, because of their relentless focus on making money without a care for how it affects the world. They have taken to heart the mantra: 'make money, make money, money, money.' Who does that philosophy put first? It certainly isn't employees, consumers, the economy, or the country, but the corporations, banks, and financial industry. There is nothing good when money is the sole focus of an endeavor. Especially, if you make it an excuse to gobble all the resources for yourself.

WWJD?

Link of the Day [3.10.15]

What I felt when reading through today’s link the first time was resignation. I already knew that we gave up a lot of our freedom for the safe, security we needed to defeat a bunch of know-nothing, backwards scaremongers of the Middle East. But the more I read, the more I got angry.

What the hell man?! This is supposed to keep us safe? I feel safe already? FUDGE these guys.

Then the article started getting into some of the specifics. Like how the ‘white hat hackers’ are cracking our development tools to inject malicious code into our applications. That just makes me disgusted.

Is this our United States? Is this what we wanted? We wanted to feel safe for this? Thanks, W. FUDGE that guy. FUDGE you guys for giving in.

More Sadly Mac

Took the MBP to MacMedics because she has to get fixed. I think I should just get a new one.

She was starting to report drive issues when I hooked up DiskUtility to her. That can’t be good. Hopefully, this cloned drive is good and I can restore it to as it was before she got sick.

My suggestion to you. Backup. Backup. Backup.

Grievances

Hoy! I missed the airing of grievances last night. On my couch at 10; fast asleep by five after… zzz… zzz…

Hunh?

Festivus is over!?

Not yet!

Apple, Microsoft, Google, Samsung, et al. … for the crap that is the patent wars in the mobile devices arena

Android… for being so lame

Android handset phone makers… for not doing software updates

Windows… for being Windows

Senior leadership… for their ignorance

Program leadership… for their smoke up the ass blowing

Self… for sticking around for this shit

Arson, Inc

If you all followed me on twitter, you would’ve been treated to my crazy rants (crazants!) on how I feel about the Orioles. I think I’ve raged against them every game. Last night, they were coming back (I know, right?), but then Matusz who although kept them in the game through six, still sucks though, was relieved by the worse bunch of “pitchers” in the MLB. I’ve gone to calling these guys arsonists: the opposite of what relief pitching should be doing. They’re throwing gas on the fire!

Anyhow, I believe this song is appropriate for our bullpen. Wouldn’t it be funny if Camden Yards music director played this for our chief arsonist Kevin Gregg when he comes out in relief? It would be awesome!

Link of the Day [10.07.10]

Yes. It is very personal. It is part of who I am, and who I am is a sucker. It is a large part of my identity — wrapped around me like a Patagonia better sweater. I have to peel it away, and let myself understand that it isn't me. It is my job. Now if I can only get over the fear of looking for a new job. Or being jobless. Or the new day. Or the new place. Or the new people. Or the interviews.Once again, Peter Gibbons will describe me in a succinct, brilliant quote: "I'm gonna end up doing it, because, uh… because I'm a big pussy, which is why I work at Initech to begin with." http://pieratt.tumblr.com/post/977179815/in-praise-of-quitting-your-job

Pitchforks and Torches

My thoughts on AIG and their bonuses is best summed up in another quote
from NewsRadio."I get a ticket, I pay it. You get a ticket, you pay it. They get a
ticket, they don't pay no ticket, and that's why these free-loading
foreign diplomats should be dragged out of their cars and beaten like
the renegade outlaws they are."Replace "ticket" with "run company and the nation into a ditch."
Replace "pay it" with "get no bonus."Those who got the bonuses should keep it, but that doesn't mean that the
American people can't go over their house and beat them to recoup our
money. Violence solves nothing, but in this case it would be cathartic.
When are we, the people, gonna take back our country.
