A Mini on My Mind

I didn’t know how small these guys are. I thought they would be just as big as the smaller SUV. Nope. This guy is tiny, a true Mini. I think even smaller than the Clubman. I think this would make a better car. Hmm. Bye bye, Jetta?

Sometimes people with a missing limb need to scratch the missing limb

I finally put the VW back on the road. A week before the Hawaiian Vacation, it threw coolant warning lights on the dash, which turned out to be a leak in the cooling system. I put her in the garage and left her until this month. The snow forecasts forced me to get her fixed. I trust her tires more than the ones on the Cooper S. Hers are newer, less wear, and more all weather types. This morning, as I started her up to get to work, I placed my hand on the light switch. I stopped by the deli to get breakfast, and when I started her again, I placed my hand on the light switch. Where does this behavior come from?I know I do this all the time. Subconsciously, I place my hand on the switch. At times, I flip the switch on. I do this most every time I start her up. Even when I know I do this, I can't help it. I do this in the Cooper S as well. There is no switch on the dash for the lights, so I am reaching for air. Perhaps, writing about it will stop this behavior.

Costs of cars adds up

I washed both cars this weekend.

Two of them.

But really, I wanted to detail them. Wash, clean, wax, shine. Both of them. But I have no inclination of doing a full detail, because the time spent is best used for sitting around the house and watching television.

In reality, owning two cars sucks. Owning one is terrible, but two is triply terrible. You have two too many things to worry about.

How are the tires on the car? How are the tires for both? Do they need to be replaced? What kind and how much?

How does the engine run? Is it service time already? What’s that squeaking when I brake? Why is the engine idling rough? What and how much?

It is a pain. On my wallet. On my time. On my peace of mind.

It was beautiful. Sorry, Itsuki-chan, but I may have to trade you in.

Plus, they’ve got the Camden version which is a true white. Very nice.

Sixth

Itsuki-chan: 6 gears
Alice Alicia: 5 gears

It makes for an interesting drive. When I feel like I’m going 70 MPH, I want to shift it into sixth. There is no sixth in my VW, so those shifts go nowhere and I’m left with holding the stick in neutral for that split second before I slide it back into fifth. Luckily, I don’t have a gear box with reverse in the furthest, lower right position or else it would be a horribly grinding noise and the transmission falling out of the the VW. It’s one of those things that the mind adapts to quickly but stalls at some times. Funny that.

Traffic Report

It's snowing. Once commited to getting to where you want to go, stay
there until this weather dies out. I knew that once I pulled out of my
driveway. I'm committed as Itsuki-chan and her LSD had me floating on
the snow as if I wasn't moving, but I was slowly. The back roads are terrible. I witnessed a 7 series BMW backing up
because he couldn't get up Dolfield. That's only a 1% grade! Red Run
wasn't much better, but at least the traffic on it grooved some tracks
to the pavement. The highways were much better. You could go fast, but that would be
stupid. If you really don't need to go, then you don't have to go. Curl up with
a good manga. Watch TCM. Do anything but drive. It's snowing. I was anxious and couldn't stay hope. Once I left my driveway. I was
committed. Now I'm at work. And I want to get home. I'm waiting for
the snow to stop.

Mini Driving

I think they give every owner a copy of this movie.

Then they say don’t drive like that!
