Put A Bird On It

Sweet goodness! This is awesome. Orioles are rocking the best record in the American League, and seem to have started getting the city to start buying in. If they play like this for the rest of the summer, it’s going to be a lot of fun. But not as fun as putting birds on things.

The return of the cartoon bird and the Orioles playing good. Coincidence?

Link of the Day [4.25.12]

We need more Orioles fans.

Camden Yards celebrating its 20th anniversary, and on most nights, she's only a third full. Come on, Baltimore, show you're support!

Today's link takes you to a crazy Orioles fanatic who wants every Wednesday to be Orange Wednesday. I'll join her, you should, too. That's a lot of Wednesdays. Maybe she should've tried every other Wednesday of the season whenever the Orioles are home.

Season ticket holder

The title to this post refers to what I hope the Orioles record will be at the end of the season. Yup. Still below .500 and they’re still not gonna win that many no matter how much I wish. Not with that starting rotation or that defense. They’ll still be the bumbling Orioles. Lovable, but bumbling.

It’s Camden Yards’ Twentieth Anniversary, and for 14 of those years it’s been nothing but losing. Can you imagine that after all those sold out games of its first decade? It really is hard to imagine. The promise and the reality are just hard to figure.

These 2012 Orioles have a lot to prove, but must do it in the most toughest division in baseball. Their rivals are better organizations and make the owner look retarded. If only Orioles fans could get a better owner.

Well, at least we’re in first place by virtue of the alphabet.

Link of the Day [2.09.12]

Ignore the fact that they have no proven starting pitching. Ignore that their bullpen will be called into action more often than not. Ignore that their fielding is terrible. Ignore that hole in their lineup at the fourth spot. Ignore all the other weak hitting spots in that lineup. Ignore the front office that doesn't know what direction to take the organization in. Ignore the owner who is long past his welcome. Ignore the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Toronto Blue Jays; teams and organizations that put to shame the one on Eutaw Street. Ignore the shambolic state of the Orioles. We still play in the prettiest ballpark in the US.I've got my season tickets, but with the offseason moves and changes I'm not sure what to look forward. I've got opening day tickets, but may get rid of them to make some money back. Or sell off the Boston or Yankee series tickets to make some money back. I will still watch games in the best ballpark in the US.http://www.camdenyards20.com/

A New Hat, A New Season, A New Hope, Renew

I'm definitely getting a new Orioles cap. I make it a ritual almost every spring before the season starts to buy a new cap. I've lost a few out the window, and I changed the size that I wear from 7 1/2 to 7 5/8. I really wear a 60cm hat, but that is in between the two English measurements. The 7 1/2 size is tight and gets tighter as the years go by. The 7 5/8 size makes me look like Robert Andino. The Legend of Bobby Andy lives! So next year I'll be sporting the cartoon bird. Again. I've got a replica of the 83 Orioles cap which people say I wear just because it was the last Orioles World Series winner. I'll always cheer for these fools knowing how frustrating an organization it is. Baseball is baseball and it beats sitting around the house.I also checked out the season ticket prices. They haven't changed, but the seating arrangement has. They moved the price range for my section inward. It's now cheaper to get closer to the dugout. The couple of sections to my left now have the same season ticket price as my section. I bought my tickets in this section because it was as close to the field as I could get without getting gouged. Now they've changed the price for the other sections. Perhaps I should switch up and see if the tickets behind the ball girls are open. The team must need fans.

1962-2011

Currently bought a few of packs of Topps Heritage 2011 baseball cards. They replicate the 1962 Topps cards, but with current players. I hated it first because I really didn’t like the original cards. It grew on me though and now I like the look of the 2011 Heritage cards and have a particular liking towards the original. Here’s a favorite Brooks Robinson card from my collection. It’s 1962! I’ve had this one since the 1980s!

I like Pie

Sadly, no longer with the organization, Felix had his worst year as an Oriole. This is a 2010 Topps National Chicle. I like these cards and I like the way this one looks. If only Felix could’ve been as great as he looks on this card.
