Leche, Queso, y Merv Griffin

Merv Griffin passed away earlier this month. When I heard about it always reminded me about the classic Milk & Cheese strip. Seems they're also selling this where you get your good leche y queso stuff.R.I.P Merv Griffin

Too old for toys?

My birthday is in a couple of weeks and in order to get correct presents I always have to post my list here.

I couldn’t think of anything as cool as getting this.

Just hinting.

Fresh Haul

I hope you and your friends made it to the comicbook store to celebrate Free Comicbook Store. I went with the seed and Marge from the Fish Tank. The Seeds been reading comics lately, and Marge has referenced some books she likes to read so they’re pretty much ready for the geekiness to ensue.

And how.

My usual store is Cards, Comics, & Collectibles in Reisterstown. They do a good service and they had all the free comics you can carry. And almost most of the time I go in, there’s a sale. Today was no different. $1.00 for all back issues in the bins.

So I bought a few back issues of Spiderman Loves Mary Jane. I would’ve bought them out, but didn’t want to be seen as too enthusiastic about this title. For a dollar it was a great buy. It’s a good read if you’re into that. Funny thing is sometimes I am. It’s reminds me of Evan Dorkin’s Pirate Corps from which I got the ska bug as well as these silly relationship style comics. Pirate Corps/Hectic Planet had Halby and Elsie. Spiderman Loves Mary Jane has Spiderman and Mary Jane. And all the intendent complications about those two. It’s stupid fun.

Astonishing X-Men

Is Josh Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men a good read? I can’t wait for the next issue.

When did Kitty Pride become the go to girl? Is she developing from the Whedon protypical strong girl a la Buffy?

Colossus’s return is great. He’s always been a favorite since playing the X-Men arcade game.

Cyclops in love with Emma Frost?! Is she the White Queen of the Hellfire club? Or is she misunderstood? What’s going to happen to her? Plus when will Cyclops become less of a pussy?

Someone please advise me. Should I keep reading it or what?

“Dorks! Dorks! Dorks! Dorks!”

Unlike my buddy,
Wyman Lee, I am not an artist, but we do share the same passion for comics. Whereas he went to the biggy in NYC, I stopped by Baltimore’s Comic Con today with my brother. It’s a little bit smaller, but just as engaging. Mainly we browsed the back issue bins of the dealers. I did get some current issues, because I haven’t been to the comic store in awhile. I also picked up some Gundam toys.

Lou Ferrigno was signing autographs at a booth. He’s pretty bulked up. The veins in his arms were visible from several feet away. We didn’t get his autograph, because he was asking twenty bucks, and I had just spent most of my cash. I should’ve walked across the street from the convention center to the Bank of America ATM and grabbed more cash.

Anyway it was neat. There’s so much to read. I’ll have to go to the comic shop next week to catch up.

Geeked

Completely geeked out today. I stopped by the comics store and they had signs all around with deep discounts on comics: 20% on new issues, 50% off of trade paperbacks, 40% off on back issues.

I spent $40.00. I haven’t done that ever.

Picked up the continuing cycle of New Xment trade paperback. This one’s Grant Morrison’s term in a Xbook. He was the writer of acclaimed Batman, Doom Patrol and other DC/Vertigo comics. His is more than a comic book of super heroes. It’s another interesting read.

Finally, Marvel has decided on getting stories told.

X-men

Comic books not the movie. Do you read them? I did up until 10 years ago. I loved the X-men. But I lost interest once work drinking got in the way.

I picked up an issue last month. I am hooked again. Can someone help me catch up? I especially like Joss Whedon’s version, Astonishing X-men. It reads good.

Bill and Ted’s Lost ebay bid.

One of the first things that I had tried bidding on on ebay was a full set of Bill and Ted comics issues 1-12. Last minute sniping pushed it from my $15.00 bid to $25.00 which I thought was too rich for my blood. I should’ve doubled down. Imagine my gall that I missed out on the complete set, and that they have become hard to find as a complete set. Imagine, also, someone actually wanting a full set of this comic. Why would anyone want to own one issue let alone 12 issues of the lame early 90s comic adaption of a pre-matrix Keanu flick? Well, it was one of the earlier works of Evan Dorkin of Milk and Cheese fame. I had bought issue 12 when in college just because Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey was one stupid funny flick. Little did I know that the writer and artist would end up being my favorite comic author.

Anyway, Evan Dorkin is releasing the Bill and Ted comic in a bound paperback. I must make my way to the local comic shop. As Milk and Chees would’ve said, “Onward to mayhem!”
