Quote of the Day [5.01.08]

"Admiral Kelly, Captain Card, officers and sailors of the USS Abraham
Lincoln, my fellow Americans, major combat operations in Iraq have
ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have
prevailed."President George W Bush 5 years ago aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln

Quote of the Day [4.22.08]

"If there's more than one way to do something, and one way will result
in disaster, then someone will do it that way."The real Murphy's Law

“Don’t try to confuse me with the facts.”

I am saddened by the events befalling the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. I wish it would not have happened like this. I remember coming into South Florida after Hurricane Andrew. The place never looked so strange.

Yet, the devestation showing on TV is out of this world. Katrina was a Cat 4 and it would seem that it should not have wreaked as much destruction as the Cat 5 Andrew. Yet, here it is almost a week after it has hit and it looks as if the end of the world has arrived there. I can’t imagine facing this.

New Orleans is gone. She won’t recover for years if not decades.

My heart and thoughts go out to those affected by this.

Hurricane Katrina

By this time tomorrow, New Orleans, LA may be a relic of the past. Hurricane Katrina (a name befitting a dominatrix) is bearing down on the city. She’s a Cat 5, a powerful one. Hopefully, every unessential person has been evacuated. Depending upon the path Katrina takes, the damage will be unpredictable.

Here are some links to interesting commentary on what such a devestating hurricane means to hit dead center on New Orleans.

Some interesting article.

Faster Pussycat Kill Kill

Slate has an article I think my cousin Angelie should read. Her cats, before they were put in a kennel outside, constantly peed all over my mom’s basement. It still reeks of cat urine. Her cats have me really on the verge. I feel like poisoning them with some of the pool chemicals. Cats suck.

Brood X

The cicadas have been in town for a few weeks, since the beginning of May. Only recently have they been swarming. I think they were waiting for nicer weather, because in the last 2 weeks they are everywhere. And loud. Louder than highway noise. I drive with my windows down and can still hear them over the wind, the radio and the other cars.
