Millennium Actress [RIP Hara Setsuko-san]

The world just found out that Setsuko Hara has died. Ozu’s muse, she was prominently linked with the great director in the ‘Noriko trilogy’: Late Spring, Tokyo Story, and Early Summer — some of the greatest of Ozu’s films. She was that elegant, demure Japanese woman on screen. Later on in life she was a recluse and very private. So it doesn’t come as a shock to find out she died back in September. It is only being reported now. Sad.

Adios and thanks for all the fun driving.

I traded her in for a truck. It’s my first time riding high on a gas guzzler. The new one’s different. It’s a boy. Tommy.

I may be making a mistake here. We’ll see in a few months what will be happening to the bank accounts. I’m already sad that I no longer drive a Volkswagen. I’ve been driving in one for my whole driving life. Now I’m not, and I have this big truck. What!

Good bye good girl. It’s been fun…

Link of the Day [7.01.13]

Why’d I put a link of the day that doesn’t resolve to anything of use? It’s a farewell to a faithful old friend. It’s perhaps the only software I use on a daily basis. More so than Twitter, because I don’t really tweet from work. I do read RSS and it was Google Reader. Now, it’s gone, and it’s time to find something new. Sayanora good buddy. May the bit bucket treat you well.

I’m gonna have to find a new browser. There will be no more Camino development. What am I going to use on the TiBook? I need a somewhat modern browser for Leopard. Camino was it. Now it is done. Relegated to the bit bucket in the sky. Maybe I should start using Safari more.

When The Music’s Over

It would be remissed of me to not mention the death of The Doors keyboardist, Ray Manzarek. I happen to be in the same country he died in over this past week. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that much of my youth was conducted with his organ and keyboard as the background music. If pressed hard, I could probably remember the song order of all 5 Doors LP. The middle two, too.

Dance on fire until the end. Music is your only friend. Until the end.

RIP Ray.

The last bit of Google I use will disappear in July. No not Snapseed Desktop for Macintosh, but Google Reader. I’ve been a user since its introduction. I’ve always used it for reading websites at work — it makes it easier to visit blocked sites and to look like your working and not visiting websites. But now its gone.

Go Argo yourself Google. You can’t put ads in my RSS reader, so now you want to stop the fun. Oh well, I’ve got to find an alternative. Anyone know some type of replacement?
