Love in the Time of Cholera

Lance Mannion, my favorite blog writer, writes of missed opportunity at the bookstore. Loved the tale. Once again, he shows how compelling a writer he is always provocative and provoking of thinking from his readers.

I spend lots of my time in bookstores. Friday and Saturday nights or Sunday days perhaps just hoping for some kind of missed opportunity as well. Very little is left to chance and as it so happens it’s happened very little to me.

Except today, I was in the BN burning off a coupon for 60% off an item (Ken Burn’s Jazz for only $72!). I pay for my purchase. The girl ringing me up says as she hands me the bag, “You know you’re handsome.”

Uhh, thanks?!?.

And I walk away.

It brings me back to Lance Mannion’s post. Missed opportunity?

Maybe. I haven’t flirted with a girl in a long time. Was this even flirting? Did she say it as a statement of fact? Or was this something else? I am probably flattering myself, but I don’t ever remember a girl tell me something like that. Just one of those things I guess.

What happened in the world of Macross yesterday? Did they announce a live action movie?

My stats have lots of referrers from The Seed and his/our Macross casting options.

Is Kate Beckinsale gonna play Lisa? Is Tobey Maguire signed on for Rick Hunter?

Just weird, man.

Happy iCal Day

Almost forgot. It’s iCal day! Did you put your mac under your pillow to receive warm Apple Inc. goodness.

Now the calendar on my iPhone matches the one on my macs, Dorthonion and Doriath!

Adventures From My Netflix Queue: Alien Autopsy, Fact or Fiction

The problem I had with this “expose” was that they talked about the film, but only show several minutes throughout the entire show. If it was a real film they would’ve filmed the entire autopsy from beginning to end.

Also, what was purported to be film looked like grainy video. Couldn’t they at least shown it as film?

It’s all fake.

Movies 2.0

This New York Times article is certainly laughable. It’s arguing that the future of movies is in the third dimension. 3-D!

That’s no punchline.

Yet, to predict that 3-D is the next big thing in movies is to miss out on the resurgance of virtual reality. VR movies will supplant the lame 3-D technology of today. You can’t get more into a movie than virtually walking through the sets.

Take that to the bank.

A Hobo’s Life for Me

I love pirates. Sometimes I fancy myself as one. But pretty soon searching for pirate booty will be replaced by a yearning for the freedom of the rails. And every one will want to be a hobo.

Don’t believe me?

It’s starting to appear every where thanks to John Hodgeman’s book and his reading of 700 hobo names. Soon there’ll be a hobo day and it’ll seep into the blogosphere memes. You’ll be wanting to know what your hobo name is.

I’m just feeling it because of watching Sullivan’s Travels last night. Good movie. Veronica Lake is short. Yet, it made me want to be a hobo too. Or at least a bum.

Green Day

Earth day was this past weekend. Here’s a link to a Nova episode about solar energy.

I’ve always wanted to build a house that would give energy back to the grid so that my energy costs would be cheap. That’s a while off. I would build it with solar powers. And perhaps some kind of battery storage. Operate more efficiently with a small carbon footprint.
