Is liking anime sexy girl figurines a strange sexual fetish? Or does this article not get the otaku culture from which the figure collecting hobby arises from?
I get the feeling that the author is attempting to assume a provocative stance on the strangeness of a foreign culture being brought to our shores by the manga and anime industry in order to criticize it. He wants to point out how ugly it can be or how very strange the fetishism found in the otaku culture is. While he does make a point on how slack the censorship is in the Japanese culture, he makes it sound very prurient which I don’t think it is.
I don’t know. At times, it is strange, and at times, it is rather sexy. Yet, pornographic it is not. Unless you look at all the hentai manga and anime.
Just picked up this new manga, Kasumi, and find it a fun read. It’s about a magical girl which puts it right in the shojo genre, but the plot hints at more of a superhero, American comic book action. The main character, Kasumi, isn’t bitten by a spider or born with mutant powers, but acquires some them via mystical lights in the forest.
She’s also a transfer student to an elite high school, and she finds herself an outsider because of her commoner class — now that’s shojo. Kasumi has to fit in, make friends, and discover why she has these new abilities.
Since it’s only on its first volume not too much has been told, but I’m looking forward to the next one.
The US has got another manga publication from the folks at Yen Press. It’s nothing like Shojo Beat or Shonen Jump. It’s got both styles of stories plus Korean Manwha and good ol’ US manga-style comics.
It’s in stores right now, so get it. Or you can borrow my copy.
School Rumble ends at 283 chapters. (;_;)
There’s going to be another School Rumble though! School Rumble Z.
It ends just as I thought it was going to get good. Plus it ends on the most mysterious of notes. Short and curt. No wrap up of Eri x Harima or Yakumo x Harima. Nothing about the girls of 1-D even from last couple of weeks. Nothing about the rival class of 2-D. They just ended it. It’s just an ending. Reminds me of History of the World Part I. That’s one big ending.
I hope they can get these to America so I can complete my bookshelf.
Finally. After a couple of very weak chapters, School Rumble comes back to the main reason to read it: Eri v. Yakumo. The previous chapters had Eri and Harima finally making a couple, at least a pretend one. It seemed that Yakumo was out of the picture. She’s back in. Onigiri is on!
I’m conflicted because it seemed to be that Yakumo gave up, so I was somewhat happy that Eri won. Yet, damn I can’t give up on Yakumo. Go quiet girl! Go!
Also, the scans were cleaned up better and it looks better too.
Every year I miss Otakon. One year was Gigi’s wedding. Another was the Eat a Peach ride. Perhaps this year will be different. I want to pick up that awesome Zentradi figure. Hmm. Maybe.
These pages make me happy and sad. Go on. Break her heart. It’s the only thing to do.
Well, I just finished Masakazu Katsura’s I”s a second time. Yes, I read it a while ago on OneManga, but decided to read it again because Borders had all 15 volumes ready to be purchased. And so I did. It’s still an amazing read.
Ichitaka Seto is a fool in love with his classmate, Iori Yoshizuki. He’s also have to fend off the advances of Itsuki Akiba and Izumi Isozaki while hoping he doesn’t fall for Aiko Asou. You know, standard harem fare. But true love finds a way.
Ichitaka is a fool. He should’ve said something earlier, but then we wouldn’t have had 15 volumes to read. Iori is cute as a button, but needs to express her love for him as well. It’s damn near amazing that they did get together in the end. Itsuki and Izumi are there as road blocks. He’s a fool for entertaining them. Aiko almost, almost made it impossible for this story to have a happy ending. But the fool becomes the prince and makes Iori’s day.
I am a sucker for this story. And I am glad I read it a second time. Purchased it to help further getting stupid, sappy crap like this made. More, please, because it warms my heart.
Someday….
School Rumble chapter 278 is pushing Harima and Sawachika closer and closer together. Darn. The noromo in me hates it. The onigiri follower in me hates it, too. Yet it was inevitable.
Save her Harima! You’re our only hope!
So reading a lot of romance comedy manga, and I find out that most are part of the manga genre called harem manga. It’s uust as it sounds like.
One guy involved with three or more girls.
What a dilemma for the guy!
And you know that the guy’s an idiot? And the girls are hot? Even the ugly geek girl in glasses, she’s hot, too!
He’ll pursue them all. Yet, does he get the girl of his dreams? The one he deserves? Or does he let them all go so as to not hurt any of them? I don’t know, but it’s fun and interesting.
Strawberry 100% and I”s are what I’m reading. I like them both. I”s is completed, but Strawberry 100% is gonna take a while.
