[blank] In A Cup

Soup in a cup. Pizza in a cup. Ravioli in a cup. Can food taste better when it comes in a cup?I've been eating cup noodles this past week, but not ramen because ramen is too high in sodium. I've been buying Thai Kitchen rice noodle soups instead. They have half the amount of sodium as ramen and you can add little or a lot of the seasoning packet as you want. With cup ramen, you can't adjust the seasoning very well. Thinking about rice noodles, I am reminded that I need to learn how to make pancit from my mom. If not, I'll go hungry when I am old and gray. Or can I just buy Mamacita's seasoning and instantly have my own pancit? What about palabok?Palabok in a cup! Now there's a wonderful idea!

I 8 this!

@Go_Mustard!

Woohoo! Go, O’s!

Just synched my iPhone to my MBP and finally downloaded the pictures all 170+ of them from the last 10 months. It’s a funny photo from one of the games this year. I believe it’s from the Florida game, I think we had lost that one. Go figure. Hot dogs are awesome!

Link of the Day [8.18.10]

You can always get what you need from the internet, but is it always the best, most satisfying way. I could've bought the Russian stacking dolls when I was in Russia, but I didn't, and instead, received mine via a Chinese knock-off. When you travel souvenirs or knick-knacks are great to bring back. Pictures are always great, too. The one thing you can't bring back is the food you ate. You ate it there, but you can't get the same experience here. Eating is a wonderful way to experience a foreign country. If we could only bring back the food we ate, it would go with all the knick-knacks and pictures and stories about your trip.Today's link is a NYTimes article detailing the devotion of some people who love to get the food from places they've visited. Obviously, this is from in country trips. I wish that we could get some food from out of country. I'd have jamon iberico to my heart's delight.http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/18/dining/18souvenir.html

She Knows How to Use ’em

Was browsing through the bookstore tonight. I know, right? A Friday night and your humble narrator was at the bookstore. It’s my home away from home. I was just browsing the manga stacks picking up the second volume of Twin Spica, BrowserMetrics’ current nice read, when I saw the book of books, Japanese Schoolgirl Confidential!! Yeah, I know, right? Of course I flipped through it.

Hentai! But that isn’t the point of this post.

In the books, there was plenty of pictures of school girls in short, pleated skirts. Lots of Grade D zettai ryouiki. Hentai! But this isn’t the point of this post.

I am a leg man. They’re my favorite part of the female body.

What I noticed though from the book and what has been kind of making me sad is that Japanese girls have chubby legs. Their legs on average are not very shapely. That’s a shame considering that their country loves the skirt and loves the bare thighs. It’s a country that has coined a brilliant word for those bare thighs: zettai ryouiki — “absolute territory.” Think about that. A word to describe the flesh from the hem of the skirt to the top of the socks. Brilliant. Yet, their women have legs that don’t inspire leg men. Even my favorite, Nozomi-chan, her legs are not very shapely, which makes me sad, because with such a cute face, yumm. Lots of cute, cute girls. Lots of short skirts. Not too much shapely legs.

Perhaps my definition of great legs is completely different. Perhaps I’ve got too high standards. No. I’m sure my standards are too high.

But I am a leg man. They’re my favorite part of the female body. Make sure you have the legs to show a little skin. I’ll love you forever.

Now, with that said, I’ll be working on my girls in glasses post next.

At least it isn’t bulut… Uh… Ulp…

Looking up siopao on the internet, I get this bit from wikipedia: "[T]here are several siopao stuffing varieties which could be either Asado or bola-bola that may use pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, cat meat, salted duck eggs."Duck eggs? Cat meat? And this is just the Filipino version of steamed buns! You can always put something in steamed buns, but that don't necessarily mean I'll eat it. I just want the bbq pork.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siopao

Adventures From My Netflix Queue: The Ramen Girl

Watching the weather and seeing the snow come down in bunches, it’s best to stay in doors. I’ve got nothing better to do, so I pop my latest Netflix into the DVD player. It’s early for this DVD almost a week and I’ve just put this in — a new record.

Today’s movie is The Ramen Girl. It has been in my queue for a year now always the bridesmaid but never the bride. I keep pushing in down, but since the movie stars the late, Brittany Murphy, I figured I would have to honor her memory by finally watching her flick. No disrespect to her and her memory.

The Ramen Girl is about Murphy’s character going to Japan to follow a boy who then dumps her. Stuck in a foreign land what is she to do. One night in the rain she follows her tears to a ramenya. There she tastes heaven and decides that she should be a ramen cook. The rest of the film is about her learning to cook ramen.

The best part of this film is that it explains the mystery of ramen. You think it’s all about the noodles, but really its the broth. I’ve got plenty of ramen in my cupboard, but I don’t really want the packet broth. If I can make a decent broth, those square dry ramen noodles may almost taste good.

So, Murphy attempts to become a ramen chef. It is hard life made even harder by the her lack of understanding Japanese. But she does learn. Little by little. Not Japanese, but ramen and the broth. Eventually, she gets to become the successor to her sensei, and learns about ramen.

After the movie, I had a bowl of arroz caldo. Not ramen. But I don’t think I do a good broth just yet.

Cheese curls

Looking for snacks before the storm?

I wish Planter’s still made their cheese snack line especially their cheese curls. I loved that they advertised on the can that it was made with real cheese flavor. Hmm, made with cheese flavor? That doesn’t sound like it was made with real cheese though.

As far as getting snowed in. I’ve already got some ramen and some eggs. I just need the salty snack to help while away the lonesome day.
