ダンケシェーン

A quartet of thanks from Nogizaka46. 「だな」

Be thankful today.  Tomorrow.  For the future.

It starts with the idol group from Japan, Nogizaka46.  Thanks for the beauty, the songs, the magic.

It ends with family, friends, cohorts, acquaintances.  Thanks for being there.

It continues with you, my readers.  Thanks for visiting.

Dankeschön.

A Certain Blue Idol

I posting this although I’m going by memory.  Watched a few months ago, perhaps end of September early October, right around the time of the re-release of Perfect Blue.  It’s a critique of the film, but also of the idol culture upon which the film builds upon.

Does the author build a case against Japan’s obsession with idols?  Does the author understand what idols mean to the Japanese?  Is his criticism of idol culture just a hook into the horror of the film?  Watch it and find out.

I think there are cultural differences between the West and Japan that muddy the waters.  There are good things and bad things to idols.  Certainly, the participants are open to exploitation, but as in many public pursuits this isn’t specific to idols.  Certainly, the fandom can be toxic, but fandom can breed bad fans in any corner of the world.  Certainly, the focus on youthfulness can be taken read as something unseemly for the olds to obsess over, but the case may be overstated.

Last week, my mom asked why I was obsessed with the young girls in Nogizaka46.  I still haven’t found an answer that would satisfy myself.  It is a thing that is me at this moment in life.  But really, I have never seen such a concentration of beauty in all my life.  So beautiful to make me cry.

Romantic Squid and Sadistic Shave Ice

Have I got a treat for you.  One of my favorites.

「ロマンティックいか焼き」

“Romantic Grilled Squid” from Nogizaka46’s fifth single.  This version is from their 2015 National Summer Tour in their home stadium, Meiji Jingu.  This is Nogizaka at the cusp of their step towards stardom.  In the video, you get a few of the graduates who didn’t make it to Tokyo Dome in 2017, and you get graduates from afterwards, and you get those ready to graduate.  So good to see them all — like before they were stars.

They end with the future double centers of the fall 2015 single, Nanase and Maiyan.  “Kira!”  And they are on our way to be the great idol group that I love.

I apologize for the awkward framing of the video.  I still don’t understand this WP Gutenberg editor…

This Is It. Isn’t It?

Sadly, things come to an end.  We’re in October and September, News Radio Quote Month is over.  I look forward to finding more News Radio quotes which I haven’t used.  Surprisingly, I blogged quite a bit.

Now we’re into October and things have only become more heartbreaking…

Nogizaka46 「それぞれの椅子」2016

This is the cover of Nogizaka46’s second album.  Their color is purple which is a mix of red and blue hence why the members are in red and blue dresses.  But this is now their time of graduations.  Another two have announced since Nishino Nanase announced hers last month.

On the first, Wakatsuki Yumi announced hers.  Then today, Noujo Ami.  Those two bring the tally of member graduations to seven.  I do not think that we’re done for the year.  And we have 2019 to look forward to.  Huzzah!

Nogizaka’s shade of purple has lightened up a bit.  Those smiling faces now make me cry.  They are breaking my heart while they make me smile.

I only wish for happiness for the members of Nogizaka46.

“Listen, I have something to tell you and it’s not very easy and I would just like to sit down. Lisa doesn’t have a crush on me, and that was just a big stupid lie that I made up because I want to tell how much I really feel about you.”

As I reach work and get out my car, I usually check something on my phone before entering the Faraday cage where my desk is parked.  I do it most often to set my fantasy baseball lineup for the day, even though it would be better to set it closer to the afternoon as the lineups announced.  Other times it’s to see what’s up with my favorite idols in Japan, Nogizaka46.  Today, I checked up on them…

「卒業」

Those are words to fear as an idol fan.  “Graduation.”

They stopped me in my tracks — a brick falling on my head.  It isn’t what I wanted to read, but I know they will pop up on occasion.  It’s why being an idol fan is terrible.  One of your favorites may have announced graduation.  And they will all do so eventually.  The idol world continues, but whose will stop?

Nishino Nanase announced her graduation.  Nanasemaru.  The Ace of Nogizaka.  The beloved Nishino Nanase.

There are 2 Aces in Nogizaka, Nishino and Shiraishi Mai.  Maiyan is the beauty.  Too beautiful for words.  Nishino is the one you want to take care of.  So adorable.

My heart is broken.  My love is planning to leave.

She’s not my oshimen, but she is a member I truly love.  Reading her blog post in Google translate had me in tears at my desk.  Even now, I choke up thinking about her words.

It’s a bummer.  But we still have next single to look forward to and to her graduation concert.  I wonder how to get tickets… hmm.

This is terrible news.  As an idol fan I have to live with it.  I wish Nanase only happiness in her life.  I won’t be able to see her much when she’s no longer with the group and it makes me sad.

I am glad to have known Nogizaka46 when there was such a member…
