Just bought one of these SSD drives from OWC. I’m using as my storage disk for music and photos. Or rather, I am planning to use it, but like the last hard drive I bought, I haven’t gone through the steps to break down both media libraries and transfer them to that drive.
Yup, it’s a network drive hanging off the Airport Express. I chose an SSD drive so that I don’t have to worry about spinning disc failure. I, also, want to connect it to Mobile Me and Back To My Mac so that I can access it from the road. Yet, I can’t really figure out how that all works. I have yet to successfully log onto my Mini from outside the house. I’m even having trouble with logging onto it via remote desktop while I am home.
All this network computing — it’s all ridiculous.

Hey, look! Fujifilm is coming out with a new FinePix 3D film. I’m loyal to Panasonic’s Lumix cameras and will be getting another Lumix. The 3D technology is too raw and just a gimmic. But there is something about this camera that caught my eye. I wonder what it is. Can someone point it out for me?
Another topic we discussed in tonight’s class was the question if “computers inspire creativity?”
Once again the Windows consultants in class said no. They couldn’t ever imagine a computer helping someone be creative. I pity their outlook in life. Why would anyone ever use Windows if this was the case?
One of them said that, while there are software programs that help you create things, computers do nothing to inspire creativity. He said that photoshopping is nothing like painting and that computers are for performing various drudgw work.
I wanted to snap, “Get a Mac!” That will show you the endless possibilities of being creative. Break those chains and get a mac. You don’t know what you’re missing.
Computers are tools. Software programs are tools. In the artist’s hands, these tools can do amazing things. Look at digital animation. That is creative! I think that using them will ignite the creative side of you. You never know until you’ve tried.
This is why I like the Mac platform. There are endless inspiring programs coming out for it. I believe the indy Mac developer world is just like the indy film world of the eighties. It is ready to go big time. If it could just change the developers that are like that Windows consultant, then Apple could rule the world. I think that day is coming.

On a serious note, we should not let this document, this great nation, our liberty, and our rights go down the tubes because some silly, little man is scared. Or is scaring us. Instilling fear. Frightening our neighbors. Pitting brother against brother. It has been 219 years since its authoring. Our nation has gone through lots in that time. One measly, petty man should not undo what history has done. Fuck Bush.

I use a Mac at home. I love the Mac, and today, Bare Bones Software has released BBEdit 8.0. This is “Software that doesn’t suck.” On each and every platform that I use I am always looking for the text editor that meets the standards set by BBEdit. On the Unix workstations, we used emacs. I got used to it. Sometimes, I would launch a file in vi just to get comfortable with the “more weird than emacs” keystroke combinations. Shift-Z-Z? On PCs, I quickly abandoned TextPad and WordPad looking for a BBEdit port. No such luck. The closest so far has been VisualSlickEdit. It is still no BBEdit.
Run out and get the latest version of the best piece of software ever written.
Since moving into my own place last year, I have been searching for furniture. I have yet to find something I really like. My style seems to be retro/mid-century modern, which is making a come back.
Designs Within Reach – not really cheap like they imply, but a sense of style that is slightly affordable.
Room And Board – if I could I would buy all my furniture from here.
