Super 8
After all the bombast of the latest summer films, Super 8 was a nice respite. It doesn’t hit you over the head with action scenes after action scenes, but it builds slow like films of yesteryear, the 70s to be exact.
It harkens back to lots of movies that occurred before the advent of Michael Bay. There is not much spinning or hyper-cutting or stupid action that happens for actions sake. There is a deliberate pace, a build up to the climax.
It’s an abandoned alien story with a modern twist. CG. It had some close encounters aspects, mixed with ET, some Goonies, some ID4. It was 1979. It was fun to bike to school, to your friends house, to town. Biking is good. It gets you around. Ask Elliot.
The alien was supposedly friendly. How friendly can you get stuck on this rock since Roswell.? He was also weird. I couldn’t decide what he was or if it was cool. Not really, but ET phone home right?
I saw this in a digital theatre and it was dark. Not the movie, but the projection. I should’ve watched the analog print. Better that way. Has this digital stuff been terrible especially with that 3D technology?

The mystery to that monsters character (later on known as an alien) made me think of the smoke monster. Then later on you realize he's ET wanting to go home but in a much scarier violent way.
It was fun to watch especially right after watching X-Men
It confuses me. I don't know if it was insect or squid like. And it's anger did it only kill those that attacked. And what was the deal with the abducted people? Food? A gestation thing? Who knows? I thought the alien was the weakest part.
X-Men was a travesty.
can the abducted people be his brain to thinking like a human? or understanding like earthlings?
dominant memory right now: the Lost-like old video shot from the lab. Seemed like i heard Dr. Chang speak there.
No. The abducted people were there for no reason, really. When they had to go rescue those abducted, I felt it was unnecessary meaning that I thought they were dead. Little did you know that they were going to be little Alien pods. Who knew? Basically, he was angry and he wanted to use them as food.
Ok! Those humans are his light? Or the reason that leads to the kid talking to him. but dude that alien can understand human speak. At least we're not gonna have to study the alien language.

He has been holed up in Area 51 for 50 years! The abduction was a plot device to bring us underground. I thought it was one of the weaker parts of the plot. When the girl was about to be abducted, I thought that they were going to kill her. "Dude has it terrible; first his mom now his crush. How horrid for him."
