Lechon Kawali Scary

I had some pork belly in the freezer for quite a while.  Uh, longer than I want to admit.  So I want to make something with it.  Char-sui for ramen?  Maybe. But let’s go to the old Filipino favorite lechon kawali.

Yesterday, after thawing it out over night, I boiled it for an hour.  Along with water, some bay leaf and peppercorn kernels.  I didn’t have much of those so I went to the pepper mill and dumped its contents out.  When it was done, I dried the pork off, placed on a plate in the fridge so that today I can fry that mea up!

So I did.  In hot oil.  I don’t know what I’m doing as some of that was splattering all over the place.  I had thought I thoroughly dried it out in the fridge over night.

The oil was supposed to be around 350 F.  I don’t have a thermometer.  I eye balled it.  Not too sure, but maybe it was too hot.  It should’ve been around 5 minutes for each slab.  But I think they were done in 4.

Now to the taste.  Okay.  I should’ve seasoned it before frying.  I didn’t and now I have to rely on the vinegar to make it tasty.

I don’t want to eat it all, but…

Mmmmm.

Soup is Good Food

The turn of the weather into fall this weekend has made me hungry for some soup.

I’ve had a sour stomach for the past week. Any food I ate just does not agree with me at the moment.  Then after helping out my brother’s move, we had some pho.  Did that hit the spot!

Now’s the time to break out the soup pots and start cooking some soup.  I need to get going with that!

A bean soup that isn’t black bean.  Maybe an arroscaldo.  Some sotanghon would do as well.  A fish chowder.  Some simple roasted vegetable soup.  Barley?  Yes barley!  And more pho!

I’ll really have to start making a shopping list.  But here we go.

This Is It. Isn’t It?

Sadly, things come to an end.  We’re in October and September, News Radio Quote Month is over.  I look forward to finding more News Radio quotes which I haven’t used.  Surprisingly, I blogged quite a bit.

Now we’re into October and things have only become more heartbreaking…

Nogizaka46 「それぞれの椅子」2016

This is the cover of Nogizaka46’s second album.  Their color is purple which is a mix of red and blue hence why the members are in red and blue dresses.  But this is now their time of graduations.  Another two have announced since Nishino Nanase announced hers last month.

On the first, Wakatsuki Yumi announced hers.  Then today, Noujo Ami.  Those two bring the tally of member graduations to seven.  I do not think that we’re done for the year.  And we have 2019 to look forward to.  Huzzah!

Nogizaka’s shade of purple has lightened up a bit.  Those smiling faces now make me cry.  They are breaking my heart while they make me smile.

I only wish for happiness for the members of Nogizaka46.

“Seriously, Dave. If that eulogy went on a minute longer it would have been yours.”

It’s raining, and it’s cold.  The boys of summer should be shutting down.

But of course I am talking the Orioles. They’ve been shut down since the start of the season.  Did they even show up?

The rain kept me from catching the last game of my season ticket package.  I wanted to see Adam Jones patrol the outfield one last time.  Sadly, I don’t want to sit in the rain, so I cancelled before I even went.  Thank the lord that the rain keeps going and the game was postponed.

This was the worst team ever.  They were hard to watch.  Then I didn’t want to watch.  The entire city of Baltimore too didn’t want to watch.  We stayed away in droves.  They kept losing in droves.  They also drove everyone insane with the losses.

I witnessed several seasons of bad Orioles baseball before Buck Showalter showed up.  But they were still easy to watch and root for.  This version you can’t want to watch.  It’s awful.  Now I know the difference between .333 and .400.  It’s really painful.

I wish for a better season next year.  Perhaps my money won’t be wasted.

“You don’t actually have to LISTEN to them. Just pretend to. It helps to create a more harmonious group energy.”

The Nun

I write this in the dark of the Sunday night.  I should’ve written this in the bright day light to avoid thinking about that demon dressed as a nun.  But then I think about it and wonder how much it looked like Maryln Manson and now it doesn’t even scare me.  Much.

This film was better than the second Annabelle, but no where in league with its forbearers, The Conjuring series.  It’s got some creeps, but there was a lot of fun and funniness going on.  Like it knew that it was ridiculous.

I will watch this when it’s on TBS, but I will only do so in the bright light of day.

3 of 5 stars.
