Covid-19 Days — 626: 8850.9 miles

A week or so after the lockdown in March 2020, I had set the B trip odometer to my truck back to zero to figure out how many miles I would drive during the lockdown. You see, commuting daily would be at least 60 miles a day. I would do about 320 miles a week in my truck with the commute and local driving on the weekends. For the year, I think I would do about 18,000 miles.

I was just curious to see how many miles I would put on during the lockdown. Of course, we’ve been out of lockdown for almost a year so this isn’t an accurate account of how many miles I did during lockdown. If I thought to have checked immediately, I’m sure the count would’ve been under 4,000 miles. But I missed that chance to record it.

For the record, it’s 8850.9 miles for the 626 days since the lockdown. It turns out to be about 99 miles per week, 433 miles per month, or 14 miles per day. Quite a bit less than what I did before the rona. Just a bit less.

感謝。Thanks!

One more year coming to its end. Here we are at Thanksgiving. The rona still around. It’s the new normal, but we’re still hanging out with friends and family. That means there’s some things that are nice to be thankful for…

Piano playing, eccentric idols. Purple. Nogizaka46. Team 963. Idols of Japan. Baseball. M1 Max. Space gray. Food. Drink. Movies. Sunny days. Rainy days. Hats and sweaters. Shorts and a t-shirt. Swimming. Biking. Walking. Running. Living. Eating. Loving. Internet. Dogs. Being here. It’s all there. 1期、2期、3期、4期、5期。

There’s a lot to be grateful for. I’m sure I am missing things. I wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!

Is there something you’re thankful for?

A Sudden Kiss

This song. This song. This song.

It’s one’s gateway to City Pop. It’s mine. If you listen to this it may be yours.

Hopefully it will be.

Listen. This song.

Nostalgia for a place and time I have never been to.

Don’t you think?

Yeah. I’m a weeb.

Office Lady Resigns

One thing about being a fan of idols is that at any time they will make the decision to graduate, and you’ll be left with feelings of loneliness and sadness.

Today, Shinuchi Mai announced her graduation from Nogizaka46. I am left with feelings of loneliness and sadness.

She’s the eldest of all Nogizaka members at the ancient for an idol age of 29. She follows my oshimen, Ikuta Erika, out the door into the future and real life. I wish her all the happiness in the world, because I have fond feelings for all Nogizaka members (and somewhat for most all idols of Japan).

Computing New

After almost eight years with a late 2013 MacBook Pro, I caved and bought one of the new 16″ MacBook Pro. Its spec with the M1 Max, 64 GB of unified memory, and 2 TB flash storage. It’s price tag is $4600 after tax. Yeah. It’s pricey. It’s also a monster.

Just this morning, I finally finished transferring my data from the old laptop. I went and used Migration Assistant and moved most my data over. And all my Intel compiled apps! What a mistake and I am trying to clean up all the old baggage from over 14 years of computing.

What? 14 years?

Yes. My previous laptop, too had used Migration Assistant to move data over so all the data is from at least 2008. Yeah, there’s a lot of history there. Not sure if it was worth it. No. It really may be. There’s 2 TB to find out.

Any how, I’m still getting used to the keyboard. Don’t like the short travel on these. I wish I had my mushy old laptop keys. Also, this trackpad is too slick. I have to get used to it. Maybe over the next 8 years I will.

Finally, I wish they included the extension cord for the power block. No idea if I can use an older one considering the brick is much larger.

卒業 is a Four Letter Word

Ikuta Erika will not make it to the 10th Year Birthday Live. She will graduate at the end of the year with her last appearance being Kouhaku.

It is a bleak Monday.

I don’t know yet how to process this information. Right now, I guess I am in shock. Depression should hit in the afternoon.

I wish her happiness, and I hope to see her do great things in theater.
